Hurricane Helene Update – Asheville Facility

IPEX Statement on Recent Media Coverage

October 8, 2026

IPEX is committed to Asheville and the French Broad River for the long term. As a major, local employer and community partner, we recognize that recovery from Hurricane Helene requires sustained effort, collaboration, transparency, and investment.

The challenges described in the AP Associated Press (AP) article underscore exactly why IPEX committed $500,000 to support continued cleanup efforts along the French Broad River watershed and partnered with local experts at MountainTrue to help advance this important work.

Following Hurricane Helene’s historic flooding, removing debris from the river remains difficult, time-intensive work, particularly in areas that are challenging to access. MountainTrue’s crews have the specialized skills, experience, and knowledge of the river needed to navigate these conditions and safely remove debris.

We recognize that important work remains and our partnership with MountainTrue reflects a shared commitment to the sustained effort this cleanup requires. Through a comprehensive survey of the French Broad River from our Woodfin facility to the Tennessee border, we gained better understanding of the significant clean-up progress made to date and what pipe remains. Survey findings, MountainTrue’s knowledge of the river, and IPEX’s resources will inform our work together, helping us identify priorities and move the cleanup forward.

IPEX pipe is engineered for safe, reliable, and long-term use in water infrastructure, including the safe transportation of drinking water that communities rely on every day. We are dedicated to the removal of pipe displaced by Hurricane Helene from the French Broad River.

At the same time, we recognize that preventing future pipe loss is just as important as removing what remains. IPEX has made significant investments to strengthen our Woodfin, N.C. facility against future flooding, and we are conducting an engineering study to evaluate additional pipe containment measures. We remain committed to working alongside MountainTrue, local leaders, and our neighbors to make meaningful progress on river cleanup and strengthen preparedness for future flooding.

Through our Silver-Line Plastics legacy, our manufacturing operations have been members of the Woodfin community since 1962. Today, IPEX is the town’s largest employer, supporting more than 250 local jobs and helping produce essential infrastructure products that serve communities across the country. We are proud of our longstanding presence in Western North Carolina and remain committed to supporting the ongoing recovery of the French Broad River and the communities that depend on it.

Hurricane Helene Community Update

June 16, 2026

As our community continues to navigate the impacts of Hurricane Helene, IPEX remains focused on supporting recovery efforts and addressing ongoing challenges across the region. As a company that has been part of Asheville since 1962, we care deeply about the well-being of the people and the environment we all share.

In the immediate aftermath of the storm, IPEX took action to remove pipe from the river and strengthen mitigation measures and site upgrades at our Woodfin facility.

We hear the concerns being raised and are taking them very seriously. We are actively assessing the situation and remain committed to working with members of the community and sharing what we learn to help inform our next steps.

Our roots in Western North Carolina are built on long-standing relationships, local jobs, and a commitment to supporting essential infrastructure and community resilience. That commitment remains unchanged.  We are dedicated to being part of the solution.

We will provide further updates while remaining focused on doing what is right for our employees, our neighbors, and the broader community. IPEX is committed to doing our part for Woodfin and the long-term health of the French Broad River.

Hurricane Helene Recovery Update

October 16, 2024

Like all our neighbors across Asheville and Western North Carolina, we are fully focused on assessment and recovery efforts at and around our facility. Our top priority is the safety of our community, employees and search and rescue teams helping the community as we all work together to restore and rebuild.

We want to reassure the public that the plastic pipe Silver-Line manufactures meets the highest safety standards and poses no environmental or health hazards.

As for materials, we do not keep any stockpiles of solvents or caustics on-site. In addition, Silver-Line does not use or have vinyl chloride or vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). VCM is used to produce PVC resin. We receive already-manufactured PVC resin, which is non-hazardous and inert, and use it in the production of pipe.

After flood waters receded, a FEMA HAZMAT team was on-site and completed an assessment – they did not find any chemical leakage on our property. In addition, we have been and continue to collaborate with local and federal health, environmental and safety authorities, including the U.S. EPA.

A major focus of our recovery efforts has been the collection and secure containment of any scattered pipes and other materials that washed off-property. Last week, we began this process and are continuing to recover material, ensuring it is being secured and contained on-site with proper handling and safety. This is a critical priority for us as we work diligently to restore and protect our surrounding community.

As there has been some misleading and inaccurate information being shared across social media, please rely only on information provided by Silver-Line, or a local or federal health, environmental or safety agency or authority on this matter. We remain committed and will continue to be transparent, and as communicative as possible as we have more information.

Déclaration publique d’IPEX concernant l’article du Associated Press

8 octobre 2026
